Temirlik Canyon is located 235 km east of Almaty. The small Temirlik River is a right tributary of the Charyn River. It originates in the high-altitude areas of the Ketmen Range, where for millions of years it has broken through an entire canyon. Like the Valley of Castles, the canyon of the Temirlik River is a whole ensemble of” palaces”,” towers “and”minarets”. The current shape of the gorge received about a million years ago. On the slopes there are numerous remains of fossil flora and fauna dating back to the Lower Carboniferous about 300 million years ago. In addition to the fossil fauna, there is also a relict one. In the deep canyon along the banks of Temirlik grow not only turanga poplar, but also relic ash, which forms cool groves, where it is especially pleasant to relax after descending into the canyon from the hot desert.
