The road to the Big Almaty Lake is planned to be closed for three years. According to the deputy head of the Almaty Tourism Department, Marat Ainabekov, at the moment, the construction of mudflow dams is underway on the road, which will last about three years.
“The question of the road to BAO. Today, a mudflow dam is being built there. It will last about three years. Therefore, the issue of opening the road is postponed, and it will be possible (opening-approx. author), only after the completion of the mudflow dams.
Moreover, now there is a question of banning movement on it. The Ministry of Emergency Situations says that it is not safe to move along this road, ” Deputy Head of the Almaty Tourism Department Marat Ainabekov said at a webinar organized by the Kazakhstan Tourism Association.
In turn, the director of the Kazakhstan Tourism Association Rashida Shaikenova noted that the visit to the popular visit center in the Ayusai Gorge on the same road is also questionable.
“At the moment, we are negotiating with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, we ask for an alternative road, we explain that there are tourist places there and domestic tourism should be developed. But the issue is still at the stage of negotiations, ” the representative of the Almaty Tourism Department said.
In March 2020, the road to BAO was closed indefinitely due to the appearance of washouts and landslides in some sections, which pose a potential danger to all modes of transport. At the moment, tourists can get to the Big Almaty Lake only on foot.
At the webinar “Tourism development in Almaty”, the participants discussed the problems and told about the plans of the tourism industry in Almaty. The event was attended by representatives of the Department of Tourism of Almaty, TIC Visit Almaty, the Main Botanical Garden, the center of artisans Qazaq Oner, KGKP “Association of Museums of Almaty” and “Smart Tourism Center”.
